Will a Shower Filter Reduce Water Pressure? – FiltraZen ClearFlow
Share
Filtered shower water without giving up a comfortable shower.
Anything water passes through can add restriction, so flow is a legitimate question when choosing an inline shower filter.
ClearFlow is designed to provide filtration while maintaining comfortable shower flow. Long-term testing recorded approximately 6.2 L/min throughout the test period, and its flow characteristics have also been independently tested by IAPMO R&T Lab.
It's the question everyone asks
"Will adding a filter make my shower weak?" A shower filter has to balance treatment media with a flow path that still feels comfortable. That is why flow needs to be considered as part of the product design rather than treated as an afterthought.
Water pressure vs flow rate
People often say pressure when they mean how strong a shower feels, but two related measurements are involved:
- Water pressure is the force pushing water through the plumbing, measured in kPa or psi.
- Flow rate is the volume of water delivered, measured in litres per minute (L/min).
When adding a filter, flow rate is often the most useful number to watch because it reflects what reaches the showerhead.
How ClearFlow performs
ClearFlow's flow characteristics have also been independently tested by IAPMO R&T Lab. Separately, long-term testing recorded approximately 6.2 L/min throughout the test period.
What affects the flow in your shower?
Your shower flow depends on the entire setup, including household water pressure, showerhead design, any built-in flow restrictor, pipework, fittings, the hot-water system and sediment loading.
ClearFlow is a filter, not a pressure booster. It cannot increase the pressure available from the plumbing.
Keeping your flow consistent over time
As the sediment stage captures particles, it gradually loads. ClearFlow's transparent housing makes this stage visible. If flow drops noticeably and the sediment stage is heavily loaded, check the cartridge age and follow the replacement guidance supplied with the product. Also check the showerhead itself for scale or debris.
Frequently asked questions
Will a shower filter make my shower weak?
Any filter can add some restriction, but ClearFlow is designed to maintain comfortable shower flow. Long-term testing recorded approximately 6.2 L/min throughout the test period.
Does ClearFlow increase water pressure?
No. ClearFlow is a filter, not a pressure booster. Household pressure, plumbing and the showerhead still determine the available flow.
Who tested ClearFlow's flow characteristics?
Flow-rate testing was performed independently by IAPMO R&T Lab.
What should I do if my flow drops over time?
Check the visible sediment stage, confirm the cartridge age, follow the replacement guidance and inspect the showerhead for blockages or scale.

Testing & performance disclaimer. ClearFlow has been evaluated through laboratory testing under controlled conditions. Reported performance figures may vary with water quality, chlorine concentration, temperature, pressure, flow rate, cartridge age and other factors. The up to 98% free-chlorine reduction figure represents a maximum laboratory result under the specified test conditions and is not a guarantee of the same reduction in every household or water supply.
ClearFlow is designed to reduce free chlorine and capture sediment and particulate matter. It is not a water softener and is not designed to remove hardness minerals such as calcium and magnesium. Chloramine performance may differ from free-chlorine performance.
