The Real Numbers Behind FiltraZen ClearFlow
Up to 98% free chlorine reduction. Independently tested. Designed for better showers.
When you're looking for a shower filter, it's easy to find big numbers and bold promises. A useful claim should tell you what was measured, how the product is built, and the conditions behind the result.
How effective is FiltraZen ClearFlow?
FiltraZen ClearFlow has been independently laboratory tested for free chlorine reduction. Under controlled laboratory test conditions, the complete ClearFlow filtration system achieved up to 98% free chlorine reduction.
Free chlorine is widely used to disinfect municipal water supplies. It performs an important public-health role in the network. ClearFlow is designed to reduce free chlorine at the shower while also capturing sediment and particulate matter.
What is inside FiltraZen ClearFlow?
Sediment shell
Captures visible and suspended particulate matter such as dirt, grit and rust. The transparent housing makes this stage visible.
Activated Carbon Fibre (ACF)
A high-surface-area adsorption stage used for chlorine, odours and organic compounds that can contribute to a pool-like smell.
Calcium sulfite
A fast-reacting water-treatment medium used for free-chlorine reduction, including in warm shower water.
KDF-55 redox media
A copper-zinc medium that supports chlorine reduction and helps reduce some water-soluble metals through redox chemistry.
See what your filter is catching
Most shower filters hide their cartridge inside an opaque housing. ClearFlow takes a different approach: its transparent housing lets you see the sediment stage at work.
As the sediment stage captures dirt, grit and other particulate matter, it can darken over time. That visible change helps you monitor what the filter has collected, but it does not precisely indicate how much chlorine-reduction capacity remains in the other media.
Will a shower filter reduce water pressure?
Anything water passes through can affect flow, so filter design matters. ClearFlow is designed to balance filtration with comfortable shower flow. In long-term testing, flow remained at approximately 6.2 L/min throughout the test period.
ClearFlow's flow characteristics have also been independently tested by IAPMO R&T Lab.
Why chlorine in shower water matters
Chlorine is used in municipal water treatment to help keep drinking water safe. In the shower, some people notice the characteristic chlorine smell more strongly as warm water and steam fill the bathroom. A shower filter is about changing the shower-water experience - not about making unsafe water safe.
Is ClearFlow a water softener?
No. ClearFlow is designed to reduce free chlorine and capture sediment and particulate matter. It is not designed to remove hardness minerals such as calcium and magnesium. If scale or hard-water marks are your main concern, a dedicated water-softening or hardness-treatment system may be a better fit.
What about chloramine?
Some Australian water supplies use chloramine rather than free chlorine. Chloramine is chemically different, and filter performance can differ. ClearFlow's up to 98% result refers specifically to free chlorine; it should not be read as a chloramine-reduction figure.
What were the laboratory conditions?
The published chlorine-reduction testing describes controlled conditions of approximately:
| Test condition | Approximate value |
|---|---|
| Free chlorine concentration | 1.2 ppm |
| Flow rate | 6.2 L/min |
| Pressure | 35 psi (about 240 kPa) |
Chlorine levels were measured before and after filtration to determine reduction performance. Real-world results vary with water quality, chlorine concentration, temperature, pressure, flow rate and other conditions.
Why choose a visible shower filter?
ClearFlow's clear housing makes one part of filtration visible. You can inspect the sediment stage and see it change over time rather than relying entirely on an opaque cartridge. That visibility is useful for monitoring sediment loading, while the replacement schedule remains the best guide for cartridge changeover.
Designed for Australian homes
ClearFlow is designed for standard Australian shower-arm fittings and everyday household shower use. The current FiltraZen site describes installation as a simple hand-fit job that takes about two minutes, with no plumber required.
Frequently asked questions
How much chlorine does FiltraZen ClearFlow remove?
Independent laboratory testing of the complete ClearFlow system achieved up to 98% free chlorine reduction under specified test conditions. Home performance varies with local water conditions.
What filtration media are inside ClearFlow?
The current ClearFlow design uses four stages: a sediment shell, Activated Carbon Fibre (ACF), calcium sulfite and KDF-55 redox media.
Does ClearFlow reduce shower flow?
ClearFlow is designed to maintain comfortable flow. Long-term testing described in the supplied technical content recorded approximately 6.2 L/min throughout the test period.
How do I know when to replace my ClearFlow cartridge?
Use the replacement schedule in the product instructions. The transparent housing helps you monitor sediment loading, but colour alone does not show when all filtration media are exhausted.

Testing & performance disclaimer. ClearFlow has been evaluated through laboratory testing under controlled conditions. Reported performance figures may vary with water quality, chlorine concentration, temperature, pressure, flow rate, cartridge age and other factors. The up to 98% free-chlorine reduction figure represents a maximum laboratory result under the specified test conditions and is not a guarantee of the same reduction in every household or water supply.
ClearFlow is designed to reduce free chlorine and capture sediment and particulate matter. It is not a water softener and is not designed to remove hardness minerals such as calcium and magnesium. Chloramine performance may differ from free-chlorine performance.
